No 3G coverage? Sue Apple!
August 21st, 2008 by Ted | No Comments | Filed in newsA woman in Birmingham Alabama is suing Apple because she says her iPhone 3G coverage is too spotty — that is, she can’t get a signal as often as she would like. Instead, like many of us, she’s relegated to the EDGE network and her iPhone must run at slower speeds. The lady is upset because Apple’s ads claimed “twice as fast; half the price”, and without 3G, the iPhone’s speed is anything but twice as fast. (Coincidentally, it’s still half the price. That part of Apple’s claim isn’t in question.)
For its part, Apple has more or less stated that they’re trying to fix the spotty 3G issue by adding a fix for it to the 2.0.2 patch, but this isn’t enough to satisfy the plaintiff, whose lawsuit weighs in at ten pages in length. Perhaps if Apple’s legal defense fund wasn’t eating into their giant (and I mean giant) cash position, this quality issue may’ve been budgeted for. Seriously, it’s software lady. Public pressure has a way of working these things out, lawsuit or not.
